You have been referred by your doctor for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examination.
This examination does not use X-rays or radioactive substances but instead relies on a magnetic field. The measured signals are converted into images by a computer. The procedure is completely painless for you. During the scan, you will hear a humming or tapping noise, which is normal and should not cause concern. This sound is caused by vibrations in the imaging coils.
Although Magnetic Resonance Imaging is considered safe based on worldwide experience, a small number of people cannot undergo this examination (e.g., individuals with pacemakers).
With every MRI examination, you will receive a free DVD containing a digital copy of your entire scan. You can view this scan on any Windows PC, and the included reporting software, also provided free on the DVD, starts automatically when the DVD is inserted into the PC drive.
