Your doctor has referred you for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination.
This examination uses neither X-rays nor radioactive substances, but a magnetic field instead. The signals measured are converted into images by a computer. The examination is completely painless for you. During the scan, you will hear a humming, rattling noise; this is normal and nothing to worry about. It is caused by vibrations of the imaging coils.
Although a magnetic resonance imaging examination is safe – as worldwide experience to date has shown – a small number of people cannot be examined (e.g., people with pacemakers).
With every magnetic resonance imaging examination, you will also receive a free DVD on which your entire examination is digitally stored. You can view this examination on any Windows PC; the viewing software, also included free of charge on the DVD, starts automatically when you insert the DVD into the PC drive.
