Abdomen/Upper Abdomen: Please follow the specific preparation instructions!
Your attending physician has referred you for an ultrasound examination of the upper abdomen. This allows us to assess the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and spleen. To ensure the examination area is clearly visible, please follow these preparation recommendations:
Preparation for Upper Abdomen Sonography
Please refrain from eating for 4 hours before the examination and drink only water. Additionally, please avoid smoking and consuming fatty beverages (e.g., milk) for 2 hours before the examination.
Sonography - Examination Procedure:
While lying on your back, we examine the upper abdominal organs using the ultrasound device. You will be asked to take a deep breath and hold it to move the liver from the chest into the abdominal cavity, making it more visible. The examination is completely painless and typically takes less than 10 minutes
